Do I need to move my child out of their crib to potty train them?

Nope! It’s a common misconception that you need to transition your child out of their crib in order to potty train them.

Having potty trained a child while in a crib, I can confidently tell you that this is NOT a reason to make this move. Here’s why; whether your child is in a crib or an open bed, they are still going to need your help to use the toilet. Whether they need assistance with wiping themselves, getting on the toilet, removing clothes or putting clothes back on, a child who is in the beginning of potty training, needs help.

A child who is in a open bed may call for their parent or get up and wake them. A child who is in their crib is simply going to call for them; it makes no difference. However, being in an open bed CAN make a huge difference in the quality of your child’s sleep. I highly recommend keeping your child in their crib until they are at least 3 years old.
